Top Tips on Low Cost Video Production

Everyone is trying to cut corners with their budgets and trying to promote themselves in the most cost effective way, and fortunately there are plenty of ways to do just that. My article will give you a few insider tips to help you along the way with your low cost video production project.

Firstly, if you are hunting down video production services, you have an amazing opportunity to reduce your costs. With the economy being flat, the competition is high, and production costs are lower to help generate more business. Secondly, production costs have lowered considerably due to new technologies available, without a reduction in quality of the end product.

To help further here are some top tips to help you with low cost video production.

Always plan ahead of your project and have a good think about how you want the video to look; how the video will flow; who is in the video and where you want to shoot the video. What is the objective of the video? Who is the audience? Answering those questions early on in the project will help you keep control of the creative aspects of your project.
In terms of locations, try as much as possible to streamline the number of locations. Try and be creative with locations available to you already without the cost - e.g. home, the office, etc. If you do have to shoot in different locations, bear in mind the distance between locations and how long it will take to travel there.
Search your archives for footage you've already recorded that is suitable for using.
Always ask the production company you select to take as much footage on the fly as possible - a video production is only as good as the content you have to work with. The more you have, the more options you'll have when it comes to the editing process.
Have a clearly defined brief. This is where most a lot of people create problems for themselves later on in the project i.e. the payment stage. Without a clear brief, you are basically giving the production company license to do what ever they like, which would mean costs spiralling.
When working out your budget, it's always wise to add 20% on to the figure you come up with. Consider it a contingency fund just in case of any unforeseen costs.

These are a very simple fundamentals that will definitely help you in your project. Good luck in your project and look out for more helpful articles from me on low cost video production soon.
